I’m fortunate! My career in sports started on a soccer field as a “Bouncing Blueberry” in 1975. As a result of Title IX, I never experienced a time when I didn’t have access to play multiple sports in grade school, high school and college. However, as an adult, I quickly learned that poverty, urban environments, and yes, social and cultural barriers were keeping girls out of sports. A system of ideas and ideals set the stage for access, but girls still weren’t playing. I founded America SCORES Milwaukee, 13 years ago, to ensure that the ideology of “Play Fair, Play IX” leveled the playing field for thousands of Milwaukee girls to participate and thrive in a sporting environment.
